Daniel B. Pitchford, PhD, is faculty for the Graduate College of Psychology and Humanistic Studies and the Graduate College of Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University. He teaches Academic and Research Writing, supervises and teaches the trauma specialization courses for the PsyD Program, and is currently spearheading the development of a Saybrook Trauma Studies Certificate and Trauma Studies Center. He is editor for the San Francisco Psychological Association's quarterly publication, former board member and now consulting board member for the Existential-Humanistic Institute, and has authored and coauthored articles, chapters, and books on subjects ranging from trauma, existentialism, death, suicide, and PTSD.
Dr. Pitchford is the 2008 recipient of the Rollo May Scholarship award for his humanistic work (in article) surrounding traumatic stress in combat veterans. He is currently co-authoring an article on a death perspective with Rochelle Suri as well as an article on the challenges of universal values across cultures and on a book exploring the fundamentals of PTSD both with Jeannine A. Davies and Stanley Krippner. All are due to be published in 2011. Dr. Pitchford's current clinical and research interests are in individual and community experiences of suicide, trauma (acute, chronic, complex), loss and death, culture and context, meaning-making and symbolism, and personal transformation.
Dr. Pitchford also holds adjunct appointments with Northcentral University and the University of the Rockies in their graduate psychology programs.
